For us, October also means A Night To Remember is almost here!

Our signature event is a celebration of the people who make our work possible and the families at the heart of our mission. It is an evening to come together, honor memories, and celebrate the strength of a community that continues to show up for local families navigating Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

From Receiving Support to Paying It Forward

One of the most meaningful parts of our work is seeing the lasting impact of connection and support.

This month, we want to recognize several generous donors who have a special connection to A Place to Start. They were once clients themselves—families who turned to us during their own caregiving journeys—and today, they are choosing to give back and help other families who are walking a similar path.

Their generosity is a beautiful reminder that support can come full circle. Having experienced the comfort, guidance, and connection that A Place to Start provides, they are now helping ensure those same resources remain available to others—at no cost to the families we serve.

To these donors: thank you for paying it forward. Your generosity is helping another caregiver feel a little less alone, find a resource when they need it, or simply know that there is a community ready to stand beside them.

Community Connections Matter

At A Place to Start, we believe that supporting local families is something we do together. Community outreach gives us the opportunity to share our mission, connect with others, and build relationships with people and organizations who are working to make our community stronger.

Recently, we had the privilege of joining the Rotary Club of Saco Bay as a guest speaker to share more about A Place to Start, the families we serve, and the importance of caregiver support.

While we were grateful for the opportunity to tell our story, we were equally grateful for the chance to learn more about the work Rotary is doing throughout our surrounding communities. Their commitment to service and their many efforts to support local organizations and neighbors are a wonderful reminder of what can happen when people come together with a shared desire to make a difference.

We are grateful to the Rotary Club of Saco Bay for welcoming us, for the work they do in our community, and for being part of the larger community that continues to show up for A Place to Start.
