Sally grew up in Lewiston, Maine with her 5 siblings. She graduated from The University of Maine in 1988. She went on to a ten year career managing retail stores and ultimately became an area manager for the Northeast region. Sally and her husband, Steve, moved to Kennebunk in 1993. Sally earned her teaching certificate from The University of New England in 2001, while raising her daughter, Sierra. Sally became a stay at home mom and raised her 3 children, Sierra, Sam, and Amelia. During this time she was very involved in youth sports as all 3 children were multiple sport students. She was employed at the town of Kennebunk, and eventually worked part time for Kennebunk Land Trust. In 2009, Sally’s mother, Connie, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. This disease has no treatment and no cure. This was a devastating diagnosis for the family and the journey was not easy as there were not a lot of resources available at the time on how to navigate this new territory. After Connie passed away, the family wanted to continue her legacy by helping other families that were dealing with an Alzheimer’s diagnosis. And it was from this that A Place to Start was created. Over the last ten years, A Place To Start has helped hundreds of families navigate this disease, offering hope, help and guidance while providing a social place for families to come and connect with others that are experiencing the same thing.
